How do I import a video into Premiere without audio?

Published in Adobe Premiere Pro 1 min read

To import a video into Premiere Pro without its audio, drag only the video portion from the source monitor to your timeline.

Here's how:

  1. Open the video in the Source Monitor: Double-click the video clip in your Project panel to open it in the Source Monitor.
  2. Drag the Video Only: In the Source Monitor, locate the "Drag Video Only" icon (it typically looks like a filmstrip). Click and drag this icon to the desired track on your Timeline.
  3. Alternatively, Separate Audio from Video in timeline: Right-click the video in the timeline after importing it normally and select "Unlink." This will separate the audio and video tracks, after which you can delete the audio track.

By using the "Drag Video Only" option, you bypass including the audio track when you bring the video onto your timeline, giving you just the video portion.
