How do you move layers by one frame in After Effects?

Published in After Effects 1 min read

To move a layer one frame forward or backward in After Effects, use keyboard shortcuts.

Here's how:

  • Move a layer one frame forward: Select the layer in the timeline and press Alt + Page Down (Windows) or Option + Page Down (macOS).

  • Move a layer one frame backward: Select the layer in the timeline and press Alt + Page Up (Windows) or Option + Page Up (macOS).

These shortcuts shift the selected layer's starting point along the timeline by a single frame. This is useful for fine-tuning animations and timing elements within your composition. If you're working with multiple selected layers, this moves all selected layers simultaneously.
