The columella is the bridge of tissue located at the bottom of your nose, separating your nostrils.
Essentially, it's the part of your nose that sits between your nostrils and connects the nasal tip to the nasal base. Ideally, the columella's position results in a certain amount of nostril visibility in profile view – ideally, no more than 4 millimeters. If more than 4 millimeters of the nostril are visible, this is often referred to as increased "columella show."
Think of it as the central support structure that contributes to the overall shape and appearance of the nasal base. Issues or irregularities with the columella can sometimes be addressed through cosmetic or reconstructive surgery.
