The stapedius muscle is considered to be the weakest muscle in the human body. It is located in the middle ear and is responsible for stabilizing the stapes, the smallest bone in the body.
The stapedius muscle is only about 1 mm in length, and its primary function is to dampen loud noises by pulling on the stapes. Because it's so small and has a limited range of motion, it is considered the weakest muscle in the body.
It originates from a prominence known as the pyramidal eminence at the posterior edge of the tympanic cavity and inserts into the stapes' neck.
