How do I switch to Family Sharing?

Published in Apple Family Sharing 2 mins read

Switching to Family Sharing is a straightforward process that allows you and up to five other family members to share eligible purchases, subscriptions, and more. To get started, you'll primarily use your device's Settings app.

Steps to Set Up Family Sharing

Follow these simple steps on your Apple device to initiate Family Sharing:

  1. Open the Settings app. This is the grey gear icon typically found on your home screen.
  2. Tap your name at the top of the Settings menu. This will take you to your Apple ID profile.
  3. Tap Family Sharing.
  4. Tap Set Up Your Family. Follow the onscreen instructions carefully. This will guide you through the process of designating an organizer (you, in this case) and setting up shared features.
  5. Invite your family members. Once the initial setup is complete, you will be prompted to invite other family members to join your Family Sharing group. They will receive an invitation that they need to accept.

Important Notes on Family Sharing

  • Already set up Family Sharing? If you have previously enabled Family Sharing and are looking to manage it, the "Family Sharing" section in your settings will display your existing family group rather than the "Set Up Your Family" option. From there, you can add or remove members, manage shared purchases, and adjust settings.
  • Automatic Subscription Sharing: A significant benefit of Family Sharing is that eligible subscriptions are automatically shared with your family members once they join the group. This includes many Apple services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud+, and various App Store subscriptions, provided the subscription plan supports family sharing.

By following these steps, you can effectively switch to and utilize Family Sharing, streamlining access to shared content and services for your entire family.
