How can I text with Apple?

Published in Apple Messaging 2 mins read

To text with Apple, you'll use the Messages app. Here's how to send a text:

  1. Open Messages: Locate and open the Messages app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

  2. Start a New Message:

    • Tap the Compose button (usually a pencil icon or a + icon) to start a new message.
    • Alternatively, you can go to an existing conversation.
  3. Enter Recipient(s): Enter the phone number or contact name of the person you want to text.

  4. Type Your Message: Use the keyboard to type your message in the text field.

  5. Send Your Message: Tap the Send button (usually a blue or green arrow) to send your message.

Important Notes:

  • iMessage vs. SMS/MMS: If you're texting another Apple user (iPhone, iPad, Mac) and both have iMessage enabled, your messages will be sent as iMessages. These appear in blue bubbles. If iMessage is unavailable (e.g., the recipient doesn't have an Apple device or iMessage is turned off), the message will be sent as an SMS/MMS text message, which appear in green bubbles.

  • iMessage Features: iMessage offers features such as read receipts, typing indicators, message effects, Memoji, and more.

  • SMS/MMS Limitations: SMS/MMS messages have limitations such as character limits and less support for rich media compared to iMessage.

By following these steps, you can easily send and receive text messages using Apple's Messages app.
