Who owns Villa Savoye?
The town of Poissy is the current owner of Villa Savoye.
History of Villa Savoye Ownership
Villa Savoye, a renowned architectural masterpiece, was originally commissioned as a private residence. After the conclusion of World War II, its initial occupants, Pierre and Eugenie, faced financial difficulties that made it impossible for them to continue living there with the same means as before. Consequently, they had no alternative but to abandon the iconic structure.
A significant shift in ownership occurred in 1958 when the town of Poissy officially assumed control of Villa Savoye. Upon its acquisition, the municipality initially repurposed the building, transforming it into a school. Over time, the villa's historical and architectural significance was increasingly recognized, leading to its eventual preservation as a national monument. Today, it stands as a testament to modern architecture, managed and maintained by the public sector.
