How Do I Turn On Custom Transparency Mode?

Published in Audio Accessibility 2 mins read

To enable custom Transparency Mode on compatible Apple devices, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings: On your iPhone or iPad, locate and open the "Settings" app.
  2. Navigate to Accessibility: Scroll down and tap on "Accessibility."
  3. Go to Audio & Visual: Within the Accessibility settings, select "Audio & Visual."
  4. Select Headphone Accommodations: Tap on "Headphone Accommodations."
  5. Enable Headphone Accommodations: Make sure the "Headphone Accommodations" toggle is switched to the "on" position (green). If it's already on, proceed to the next step.
  6. Tap Transparency Mode: Under Headphone Accommodations, you will see "Transparency Mode." Tap on it.
  7. Turn on Custom Transparency Mode: Toggle the switch next to "Custom Transparency Mode" to the "on" position (green).
  8. Adjust Ambient Noise Reduction: Once Custom Transparency Mode is enabled, you'll see a slider labeled "Ambient Noise Reduction." Drag the slider to the left to allow more ambient noise to pass through, or to the right to reduce ambient noise further. Experiment with the slider to find the level that best suits your needs.

By adjusting the "Ambient Noise Reduction" slider, you can customize the intensity of the transparency effect, allowing you to hear more or less of your surroundings while using your headphones or earbuds. This feature is particularly useful in environments where you need to be aware of your surroundings, such as when walking on a busy street or working in a shared office space.
