How to Cut Babies' Nails?

Published in Baby Care 1 min read

Cutting a baby's nails can seem daunting, but it's an essential part of keeping them safe and comfortable. Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Choose the right tools. Opt for baby nail clippers or rounded baby nail scissors designed for tiny fingers and toes. These tools minimize the risk of accidental pricks.
  2. Find a calm moment. The best time to trim your baby's nails is when they are asleep or very drowsy and calm.
  3. Prepare your workspace. Work in a well-lit area with a firm surface.
  4. Hold your baby's hand or foot securely. Gently pull the skin of the fingertip or toe away from the nail to prevent cutting the skin.
  5. Cut the nail straight across. Avoid cutting too close to the skin, as this can cause ingrown nails. You can also gently file any sharp edges after cutting.
  6. Repeat the process for each finger and toe.

Remember that babies' nails grow quickly, so you might need to trim them as often as once a week. It's also a good idea to get your baby used to having their nails trimmed from a young age.

If you have any concerns, always consult with your pediatrician.
