Using a nasal bulb, also known as a bulb syringe or nasal aspirator, is a safe and effective way to remove mucus from your baby's nose. Here's how to do it:
- Squeeze the air out of the bulb. This creates a vacuum that will draw the mucus out of your baby's nose.
- Gently place the tip of the squeezed bulb into one nostril. Be careful not to insert it too far.
- Slowly release the bulb to let the air back into it. This will suction out the mucus.
- Squeeze the mucus out of the bulb and onto a tissue.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for the other nostril.
Tips for using a nasal bulb:
- Use saline solution. You can use a nasal saline spray or drops to help loosen the mucus before suctioning.
- Hold your baby upright. This will help prevent the mucus from going down your baby's throat.
- Be gentle. Don't force the bulb into your baby's nose.
- Use a new bulb each time. This will help prevent the spread of germs.
Note: If your baby is experiencing difficulty breathing or has a fever, consult a healthcare professional.
