At what age is baby hair permanent?

Published in Baby Hair Development 1 min read

A baby's permanent hair will likely begin to appear around the six-month mark. However, your little one may grow their childhood hair as early as three months or as late as 18 months. Every child is different. It's considered healthy and normal for babies to grow their big-kid hair any time before two years of age.

Here's why:

  • Newborn Hair Loss: Many newborns lose their hair during the first few months of life. This baby hair is replaced by permanent hair.
  • Hair Texture Changes: A baby's hair texture and color can continue to change throughout the first five years of life.

Keep in mind:

  • The timeframe for a baby's permanent hair growth can vary significantly.
  • Hair color can change even after permanent hair growth starts.
