To free Lae'zel in Baldur's Gate 3, you typically need to destroy the base of the cage she is trapped in with a ranged attack or convince the Tieflings guarding her to leave.
How to Free Lae'zel in Baldur's Gate 3
Upon encountering Lae'zel after the Nautiloid crash, you'll find her suspended in a cage by a group of Tieflings. There are several approaches to secure her release, ranging from direct action to diplomatic negotiation.
1. The Ranged Attack Method (Most Common)
The most straightforward way to free Lae'zel is by destroying the weakened base of her suspended cage.
- Locate the Cage: Lae'zel will be in a cage hanging above the ground, guarded by Tieflings.
- Target the Base: Focus your attacks on the weakened wooden base of the cage. It only takes a few hits to break it.
- Use a Ranged Attacker: Any character with a bow, crossbow, or a ranged spell can perform this.
- No Ranged Weapon? If you don't have a character with a ranged attack, look for a short bow on the ground near the cage. Pick it up and equip it.
- Astarion's Advantage: Astarion, as a Rogue, naturally excels with ranged weapons and is an excellent choice for this task.
- Positioning for Aim: You may need to climb the nearby ledge or find an elevated position to get a clear line of sight and aim effectively at the cage's base.
- Fire Away: Shoot a few arrows or cast a few damaging ranged spells at the base, and it will break, dropping Lae'zel to the ground.
2. Diplomatic Solutions with the Tieflings
Before resorting to combat or direct action, you can attempt to persuade, intimidate, or deceive the Tieflings into abandoning their post.
- Initiate Dialogue: Approach the Tieflings and engage them in conversation.
- Dialogue Options:
- Persuasion: Convince them that Lae'zel is not worth their trouble or that she is infected with a dangerous parasite.
- Intimidation: Threaten them into leaving, suggesting you are a more formidable force than they realize.
- Deception: Trick them into believing something that makes them abandon the cage.
- Skill Checks: These dialogue options will require successful Charisma-based skill checks (Persuasion, Intimidation, Deception). A high Charisma character or one with proficiency in these skills will have a better chance of success.
- Outcome: If successful, the Tieflings will leave, allowing you to free Lae'zel without a fight.
3. Direct Combat
If diplomatic efforts fail or you prefer a more direct approach, you can engage the Tieflings in combat.
- Initiate Attack: Simply attack one of the Tieflings to start a combat encounter.
- Defeat the Guards: Eliminate the Tieflings guarding Lae'zel.
- Free Lae'zel: Once the Tieflings are dealt with, you can then proceed to break the cage using a ranged attack as described above, or Lae'zel may drop down shortly after the conflict.
Once Lae'zel is on the ground, she will join your party, eager to continue the search for a cure for the Mind Flayer parasite.
