How long is BRT?

Published in Basic Rescue Training Duration 2 mins read

Basic Rescue Training (BRT) itself is 4 weeks long. However, the total duration of the initial enlistment period can vary depending on an individual's Pre-Enlistee IPPT (Individual Physical Proficiency Test) score.

Understanding BRT Duration

BRT, or Basic Rescue Training, is a foundational training phase designed to equip individuals with essential rescue skills. While the core BRT module consistently spans four weeks, some recruits may undergo an additional preparatory phase before starting BRT.

The duration of this initial training period is determined by specific criteria, primarily related to physical fitness standards:

  • For individuals who achieve a satisfactory score in their Pre-Enlistee IPPT, the training proceeds directly into the 4-week BRT.
  • For those who do not meet the minimum IPPT score, an additional 8-week Physical Training Phase (PTP) is included prior to the 4-week BRT. This PTP aims to improve their physical fitness to meet the demands of the subsequent training.

Training Duration Based on IPPT Scores

The following table details the typical training duration:

Criteria for Enlistees (PES A/B1) Initial Training Phase (prior to NS) Duration of BRT
61 points or more in your Pre-Enlistee IPPT Direct entry into BRT 4 weeks
Less than 61 points in your Pre-Enlistee IPPT 8 weeks of Physical Training Phase (PTP) followed by BRT 4 weeks

It's important to note that regardless of whether a PTP is required, the Basic Rescue Training module itself is a standardized four-week program. The PTP is an preparatory phase that extends the overall initial training period for some individuals, ensuring they are physically prepared for the BRT and subsequent National Service training.
