How to Resize an Image in Canva?

Published in Canva Tutorials 2 mins read

Resizing an image in Canva is straightforward and can be done in a few simple steps.

Here's how to resize an image you've added to your Canva design:

  1. Select the Image: Tap or click on the image you want to resize. You'll see a border with small circles (resize handles) appear around it.

  2. Resize Handles: Locate the resize handles, which are the small circles at the corners and sides of the image.

  3. Drag to Resize:

    • Click and drag any of the corner handles to resize the image proportionally (maintaining its aspect ratio).
    • Click and drag the side handles to resize the image horizontally or vertically, potentially distorting it.
  4. Resize to a Specific Dimension (Pro Users): Canva Pro users can also resize the entire design to specific dimensions.

    • Go to File > Resize.
    • Enter the desired width and height in pixels, inches, centimeters, or millimeters.
    • Click Resize. You also have the option to create a copy and resize it, leaving your original design untouched.

Tips for Resizing Images in Canva:

  • Hold Shift (desktop): While dragging a corner handle on the desktop version of Canva, hold down the Shift key to maintain the image's aspect ratio. This prevents unwanted distortion.
  • Zoom in for precision: Zooming in on your design gives you more control when resizing smaller images or making subtle adjustments.
  • Consider Image Quality: Enlarging an image too much can result in pixelation. If you're significantly increasing the size, ensure you're using a high-resolution image.

By following these steps, you can easily resize images in Canva to fit your design needs.
