How Many Cards Against Humanity Do You Deal?

Published in Cards Against Humanity Rules 2 mins read

When playing Cards Against Humanity, each player draws 10 white cards to begin the game.

Starting the Game: Your Initial Hand

To kick off a game of Cards Against Humanity, every participant receives a specific number of cards for their starting hand. These are known as white cards.

  • Initial Deal: Each player draws 10 white cards. These cards contain various nouns, phrases, or situations that players will use to fill in the blanks of black cards.
  • Player Roles: Once white cards are dealt, one player is designated as the Card Czar. This role typically rotates among players in subsequent rounds. The Card Czar's responsibility is to read the black card for the round and choose the winning white card submission.
  • Player Count: Cards Against Humanity requires a minimum of three players to operate effectively. There is no strict upper limit to the number of players, though the game's owner might be constrained by the total quantity of white cards available in their set.

Understanding Card Types

The game primarily uses two types of cards:

  • White Cards: These are the answer cards. Players submit these from their hand to complete the phrase or question on the black card.
  • Black Cards: These are the prompt cards, typically containing a question, a fill-in-the-blank statement, or a scenario. The Card Czar reads one black card per round.

The initial deal specifically pertains to the white cards that form each player's starting hand, providing them with options to play throughout the game.
