There are two likely culprits for the voice you're hearing on your HP Chromebook x360: ChromeVox (the screen reader) and Select to Speak. Here's how to disable each:
1. Disabling ChromeVox
ChromeVox is a built-in screen reader that provides spoken feedback for users with visual impairments.
-
Quick Method: Press Ctrl + Alt + Z simultaneously. This is the keyboard shortcut to toggle ChromeVox on and off.
-
Through Settings:
- Click on the clock in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Click the Settings icon (looks like a gear).
- In the left sidebar, click Accessibility.
- Under the "Vision" section, find ChromeVox.
- Toggle the switch next to "Enable ChromeVox (spoken feedback)" to the Off position.
2. Disabling Select to Speak
Select to Speak allows you to highlight specific text and have it read aloud.
-
Through Settings:
- Click on the clock in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Click the Settings icon (looks like a gear).
- In the left sidebar, click Accessibility.
- Under the "Vision" section, find Select to Speak.
- Toggle the switch next to "Enable Select to Speak" to the Off position.
By disabling either ChromeVox or Select to Speak (or both), you should be able to turn off the unwanted voice on your HP Chromebook x360.
