How to trim screen recording on Chromebook?

Published in Chromebook Screencasting 2 mins read

To "trim" a screen recording on a Chromebook using the built-in functionality, you can utilize a feature that allows you to skip unwanted sections during playback. This effectively hides portions of your video without permanently deleting them from the original file.

Understanding Chromebook Screen Recording Trimming

Chromebooks offer a straightforward method to manage unwanted parts of your screen recordings. Instead of a traditional video editing process that cuts and removes sections of the actual video file, the built-in tool allows you to skip specific segments during playback. This means those portions will not be visible when the screencast is played, providing a cleaner and more focused viewing experience.

Steps to Trim (Skip) Sections of Your Screen Recording

Follow these simple steps to hide unwanted segments of your screen recording on a Chromebook:

  1. Access the Transcript Panel: After recording your screen, locate and click on the transcript panel associated with your screencast. This panel typically displays the spoken words or a timeline of your recording.
  2. Locate the Unwanted Section: Within the transcript panel, identify the specific section of the video you wish to "trim" or hide.
  3. Click the 3-Dots Button: For the identified section, click the 3-dots button (often represented as an ellipsis: ...) next to it.
  4. Choose "Skip section": From the options that appear, select "Skip section".

Once you perform these steps, that particular portion of the video will no longer be shown when the screencast is played back.

Reverting Skipped Sections

Should you change your mind and wish to re-include a section you previously skipped, the process is just as simple:

  • Return to the transcript panel.
  • Find the section you marked to be skipped.
  • Click the "Undo skip" button associated with that section.

This action will make the previously skipped portion visible again during playback.
