Currently, eight of the Little Rock 9 are alive.
The Little Rock 9 were a courageous group of African American students who made history by enrolling in Little Rock Central High School in 1957, challenging racial segregation. Of the original nine students, all but one are still alive. Jefferson Thomas, a notable member of this pioneering group, passed away in 2010.
Each member of the Little Rock Nine went on to achieve successful lives and careers, with most earning college and advanced degrees. Their bravery and perseverance continue to be a cornerstone of the American Civil Rights Movement, leaving an enduring legacy of desegregation and equality.
