Eight of the Little Rock Nine are still alive.
The Legacy Continues
The Little Rock Nine are renowned for their courageous act of integrating Little Rock Central High School in 1957, a pivotal moment that challenged racial segregation in American education and advanced the Civil Rights Movement.
While nine students originally made history, one member of the group, Jefferson Thomas, has passed away. He died at the age of 67. Before his passing, Thomas served as a dedicated federal employee with the Department of Defense for 27 years, contributing significantly in his professional life after his historic role.
The remaining eight members of the Little Rock Nine continue to live and achieve personal milestones, upholding their enduring legacy as symbols of resilience and the pursuit of equality. Their contributions continue to inspire generations.
