Is a D&C Painful?

Published in D&C Pain Management 1 min read

You shouldn't feel any pain during the D&C procedure itself because you'll either be unconscious or sedated. After the procedure, you may experience cramping similar to menstrual cramps. Over-the-counter pain medication like acetaminophen (Tylenol) can help manage this discomfort. However, some people may experience more severe pain. If your pain is getting worse, you should see your doctor immediately.

It's important to note that there is variation in the level of pain reported after a D&C. Some people experience only mild cramping, while others have more intense discomfort. Factors like the reason for the D&C, individual pain tolerance, and the type of anesthesia used can all influence the experience.

If you have concerns about pain management during or after your D&C, discuss them with your doctor. They can provide personalized advice and recommendations based on your individual situation.
