How Do I Invite Someone to My iCloud Plan?

Published in Family Sharing 2 mins read

To invite someone to share your iCloud storage plan, you do so by inviting them to your Apple Family Sharing group. This allows them to utilize your iCloud storage, along with other benefits like shared app purchases and subscriptions.

Steps to Invite Someone to Your Family Sharing Group

Inviting a new member to your Family Sharing group to share your iCloud plan is a straightforward process:

  1. Access Settings: Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

  2. Navigate to Family: Tap on your name at the top of the screen, then select Family (or Family Sharing on older iOS versions).

  3. Add a New Member: Look for and tap Add Member (usually located at the top right of the Family screen).

    • For an existing Apple ID: If the person you are inviting already has their own Apple ID, choose Invite Others. You can then send an invitation via iMessage, email, or in person.
    • For a child without an Apple ID: If you are adding a child who doesn't yet have an Apple ID, select Create Child Account. You will then be guided through the steps to set up a new Apple ID for them, which will automatically add them to your Family Sharing group.

Once the invitation is sent, the recipient must accept it from their device to join your Family Sharing group and gain access to the shared iCloud storage plan.

Benefits of Family Sharing Beyond iCloud Storage

When you invite someone to your Family Sharing group, they not only get to share your iCloud storage plan, but also gain access to a range of other benefits:

  • Shared Purchases: Family members can access apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books purchased by other family members.
  • Shared Subscriptions: Eligible Apple subscriptions (like Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple TV+, and Apple Fitness+) and certain third-party subscriptions can be shared.
  • Location Sharing: Family members can choose to share their location with the group for easy tracking and safety.
  • Screen Time Management: Parents can manage their children's Screen Time settings and content restrictions from their own device.

By setting up Family Sharing, you create a central hub for sharing various Apple services and content, making it incredibly convenient for households.
