What color hides fingerprints?

Published in Fingerprints and Color 1 min read

Neutral colors like beige, gray, and other muted tones are excellent at masking fingerprints. Darker colors, such as black, also tend to conceal smudges better than bright colors like orange, yellow, and red. These vibrant hues tend to attract the eye to the area, making fingerprints more prominent.

Here are some examples:

  • Neutral colored walls are less likely to show fingerprints than brightly colored walls.
  • Darker colored smartphones generally hide fingerprints better than lighter ones.
  • Matte finishes on devices and surfaces tend to be more fingerprint resistant compared to glossy finishes.

While white may be considered a lighter color, it can be effective in hiding fingerprints if the surface has a matte finish rather than a glossy one.
