How are corn flakes cooked?

Published in Food Processing 1 min read

Corn flakes are cooked using a combination of industrial drying and baking.

Essentially, after the corn flakes are formed, they undergo the following cooking process:

  1. Industrial Drying: The flakes are first placed in an industrial dryer. This high-temperature drying process removes most of the remaining water from the flakes.

  2. Baking: After drying, the flakes are transferred to a baking sheet and baked in an oven at 215°C (approximately 419°F). This baking step gives the corn flakes their characteristic golden color.

Therefore, the "cooking" involves both drying to remove moisture and baking to achieve the desired color and crispness.
