The gas used in Sprite is carbon dioxide (CO2).
Sprite, like other carbonated soft drinks, gets its fizz from carbon dioxide gas dissolved in the water. This process is called carbonation. Soft drink manufacturers dissolve carbon dioxide into the water under high pressure. When you open a bottle or can of Sprite, the pressure is released, and the carbon dioxide comes out of solution in the form of bubbles. This is what gives Sprite its characteristic effervescence.
