How to Apply a Corn Cap?

Published in Foot Care 2 mins read

Applying a corn cap is a straightforward process designed to relieve pressure and remove corns. Here's how to do it effectively:

  1. Prepare the Affected Area: Thoroughly clean the area around the corn with soap and warm water. Pat it completely dry. This ensures the adhesive sticks properly and prevents infection.

  2. Apply the Corn Cap Plaster: Peel the protective backing off the corn cap plaster. Carefully position the foam ring so that the center of the ring is directly over the corn. This cushions the corn and reduces friction.

  3. Secure the Plaster: Wrap the adhesive strips of the plaster around the sides of your toe or foot, ensuring it's firmly secured. Make sure the plaster is smooth and doesn't have any wrinkles, which could cause discomfort.

  4. Regular Changes: Change the corn cap plaster every two days, or as directed on the product packaging, until the corn softens and can be easily removed. Soaking your foot in warm water before each change can help soften the corn.

Important Considerations:

  • Hygiene: Always wash your hands before and after applying a corn cap to prevent infection.
  • Diabetes/Circulatory Problems: If you have diabetes or poor circulation, consult a doctor before using corn caps, as they can increase the risk of complications.
  • Persistence: Corn removal can take time. Be patient and consistent with the treatment. If the corn persists or worsens, seek professional medical advice.
  • Different Types: Some corn caps contain salicylic acid, which helps dissolve the corn. If using these, be careful to apply only to the corn itself, as it can irritate healthy skin.
