What is the full form of DotA?

Published in Gaming Acronyms 1 min read

The full form of DotA is Defense of the Ancients.

DotA is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion The Frozen Throne. It originated from a custom scenario created by the pseudonymous designer Eul in 2003, inspired by the StarCraft map Aeon of Strife. Players choose and control powerful heroes, working together as a team to destroy the opposing team's Ancient, a heavily guarded structure located at their base.

DotA's popularity led to the development of standalone MOBA games like League of Legends and Dota 2, with the latter being a direct sequel developed by Valve Corporation, employing one of the key developers of the original DotA mod, IceFrog. The game's strategic depth and competitive nature have contributed significantly to the growth of esports.
