At its inception, there were three Williams brothers in the gospel music group, The Williams Brothers.
The Original Members
The foundation of The Williams Brothers gospel group was built upon the shared talent of three siblings. These brothers were instrumental in forming the group and laying the groundwork for their musical legacy.
The three original Williams brothers were:
- Doug Williams
- Leonard Williams
- Melvin Williams
Evolution of the Group
While the core of the group started with these three brothers, the ensemble expanded over time to include additional talented musicians and vocalists. This evolution allowed the group to enrich its sound and reach a wider audience.
Initially, alongside the three Williams brothers, the group also included:
- Henry Green (their cousin)
- Maurice Surrell (a non-family member)
As the group progressed, more members were added, contributing to its dynamic lineup. These later additions included:
- Derrick Horne
- Maulty "Tuff" Jewell IV
- Pharis "June Bug" Evans Jr.
- Ralph Lofton Jr.
- Terrell Midge Gatlin
Despite the rotating and expanding roster of members, the identity of "The Williams Brothers" remained centered around the founding trio who gave the group its name and initial direction.
