Kronos, having ascended to the throne as king of the Titans after overthrowing his own father, Uranus, took his sister Rhea as his consort. Their union produced several powerful deities, but Kronos, haunted by a chilling prophecy from his parents, resorted to extreme measures to secure his reign.
The Prophecy and Kronos's Fear
The core reason for Kronos's gruesome actions stemmed from a deep-seated fear of history repeating itself. His parents, Uranus and Gaea, had warned him that he, too, would be overthrown by one of his own children, just as he had overthrown his father. Through cunning and strength, he forced Kronos to regurgitate his swallowed siblings, leading to the epic war known as the Titanomachy, which ultimately saw the Olympians overthrow the Titans and establish a new era of divine rule.
