There are 27 bones in each hand. These bones are divided into three groups:
- Carpal bones (8): These bones make up the wrist and are arranged in two rows of four.
- Metacarpal bones (5): These bones make up the palm of the hand.
- Phalanges (14): These are the finger bones. Each finger (except the thumb) has three phalanges: the distal, middle, and proximal phalanges. The thumb only has two phalanges, the distal and proximal phalanges.
The complex arrangement of these bones allows for a wide range of movement and dexterity in the hand.
