Centuries later, Lord Voldemort learned of the diadem's existence and its powerful history from Helena herself. He subsequently sought out the diadem and defiled it by turning it into one of his Horcruxes, embedding a fragment of his soul within it.

Helena's desire for the diadem's destruction stemmed from her profound understanding of its corruption. She viewed the once-prized family heirloom as something utterly defiled and dangerous.
