Who has won the Heisman Trophy under Bob Stoops?

Published in Heisman Trophy Winners 2 mins read

Under the direct head coaching tenure of Bob Stoops at the University of Oklahoma, two players won the prestigious Heisman Trophy: Jason White in 2003 and Sam Bradford in 2008.

Bob Stoops, a highly successful coach, led the Oklahoma Sooners for 18 seasons, from 1999 to 2017. During his time, he developed numerous talented players, including several who would go on to win the Heisman Trophy.

While Jason White and Sam Bradford secured the award directly "under his watch," Stoops also coached two other quarterbacks, Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, who later achieved Heisman glory after his retirement. Baker Mayfield won the award in 2017, the same year Stoops retired from coaching, and Kyler Murray followed in 2018. Both players were integral parts of the Oklahoma program developed under Stoops's leadership, even though they received the Heisman after he had stepped down as head coach.

Here is a summary of the Heisman Trophy winners coached by Bob Stoops:

Player Year Won Under Bob Stoops' Direct Coaching?
Jason White 2003 Yes
Sam Bradford 2008 Yes
Baker Mayfield 2017 No (Won after Stoops' retirement)
Kyler Murray 2018 No (Won after Stoops' retirement)
