Navels, also commonly known as belly buttons, are the scar left on your abdomen where the umbilical cord was once attached. This cord was essential for providing nutrients from your mother to you when you were developing inside the womb.
Essentially, a navel is the result of the umbilical cord being cut after birth. The remaining stump eventually dries and falls off, leaving behind the scar we know as the navel.
