How Do I Resize a Video in iMovie App?

Published in iMovie Editing 1 min read

To resize a video clip within the iMovie app on your Mac, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Clip: In your iMovie timeline, click on the video clip or photo you wish to resize.

  2. Open Cropping Controls: Look for the Cropping button in the viewer (usually located above the timeline). Click it to reveal the cropping options.

  3. Choose "Crop to Fill": Select the "Crop to Fill" option. This will ensure the video fills the entire frame, which is often desired when resizing to a different aspect ratio.

  4. Adjust the Frame: A frame will appear over your video. Move and resize this frame to focus on the portion of the video you want to be visible. You can drag the corners of the frame to resize it, and click and drag inside the frame to reposition it.

  5. Apply the Crop: Once you are happy with the new framing, click the "Apply" button within the cropping controls. iMovie will now display the resized video.

By following these steps, you can easily resize and reframe your video clips within the iMovie application.
