The sense of sight is the weakest sense at birth.
Why Sight is the Least Developed Sense at Birth
The main reason sight is less developed than other senses at birth is that babies don't need to use their eyes inside the womb. Since there isn't much to see in the womb, the visual system doesn't develop as fully as the other senses, like hearing, taste, smell, and touch, which are actively used during fetal development.
Sense | Development at Birth | Reason |
---|---|---|
Sight | Least Developed | Limited use within the womb |
Hearing | More Developed | Sounds are present in the womb |
Taste | More Developed | Amniotic fluid exposes fetus to tastes |
Smell | More Developed | Connected to taste and amniotic fluid |
Touch | More Developed | Physical contact within the womb occurs |
