How to Paint Paneling with Grooves

Published in Interior Painting 1 min read

To paint paneling that has grooves, you need to ensure thorough coverage within those recessed areas. The key is a two-step approach involving both brushing and rolling.

Painting the Grooves

According to the reference "Paint the Paneling," if you have left grooves in your paneling:

  • Step 1: Brush the Grooves
    • You should follow the same process you used with the primer to make sure the paint covers each groove. This typically means using a brush specifically designed for cutting in or getting into tight spaces. Carefully work the paint into the full depth and width of each groove.
  • Step 2: Roll for Coverage and Adhesion
    • After you've brushed the paint into the grooves, use a paint roller over those areas, and the rest of the wall, to ensure consistent coverage and adhesion. Rolling helps smooth out any brush marks in the grooves and applies an even coat to the surrounding flat paneling surface, ensuring everything blends together and adheres properly.

This method guarantees that the paint reaches deep into the grooves while providing a uniform finish across the entire panel.
