Taking a video of your screen on an iPad Pro is a straightforward process, allowing you to capture app demonstrations, gameplay, tutorials, or any on-screen activity directly on your device.
Setting Up Screen Recording on Your iPad Pro
Before you can record your screen, you need to ensure the Screen Recording control is accessible from your iPad's Control Center. This is a quick one-time setup.
- Open Settings: Tap the Settings app icon on your iPad Pro's Home screen.
- Navigate to Control Center: In the Settings menu, scroll down and tap on Control Center.
- Customize Controls: Tap on Customize Controls (or More Controls in newer iPadOS versions).
- Add Screen Recording: Under the "More Controls" section, scroll down until you find Screen Recording. Tap the green + icon next to it to move this option up to the "Included Controls" section.
- This step is crucial and directly utilizes the information from the reference: "Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls, then tap next to Screen Recording to move this option up to Included Controls."
Once added, the Screen Recording icon (a solid circle within a larger circle) will be available in your Control Center.
How to Record Your iPad Pro Screen
With Screen Recording added to your Control Center, you're ready to start capturing your screen activity.
- Open Control Center:
- For iPad Pro models with Face ID (no Home button): Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen.
- For iPad Pro models with a Home button: Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
- Start Recording: Tap the Screen Recording button (the icon you added, which looks like a circle with a dot inside).
- Countdown: A three-second countdown will appear, giving you time to switch to the app or screen you want to record. After the countdown, recording begins.
- Recording Indicator: While recording, a red status bar will appear at the top of your screen (or a red recording icon in the top-right corner near the battery indicator), indicating that your screen is being recorded.
Recording with Audio
By default, screen recordings capture only the screen's visual content. To record audio from your iPad's microphone (e.g., your voice narrating a tutorial), follow these steps before tapping the record button:
- Press and Hold: Instead of a quick tap, press and hold the Screen Recording button in Control Center.
- Enable Microphone: A menu will pop up. Tap the Microphone Audio icon (it will turn red) to turn on your microphone.
- Start Recording: Tap Start Recording in the pop-up menu.
This allows you to add narration or record audio from your environment along with your screen capture.
Stopping Your Screen Recording
When you're finished recording, you can stop the process in a couple of ways:
- Tap the Red Status Bar: Tap the red status bar at the very top of your screen. A prompt will appear asking if you want to stop the recording. Tap Stop.
- Via Control Center: Open Control Center again (swipe down from the top-right or up from the bottom) and tap the Screen Recording button. It will now be red and flashing; tapping it again will stop the recording.
Once stopped, a notification will briefly appear, stating "Screen Recording video saved to Photos."
Locating Your Screen Recording
All screen recordings are automatically saved to your Photos app.
- Open Photos App: Tap the Photos app icon on your Home screen.
- Find Your Video: Your screen recording will appear among your most recent photos and videos. You can also navigate to the "Albums" tab and look under "Media Types" for the "Videos" album.
Tips for Effective Screen Recording
- Plan Your Recording: Before you start, think about what you want to capture and practice any actions or navigations you'll perform.
- Manage Notifications: Consider temporarily enabling "Do Not Disturb" mode to prevent notifications from appearing during your recording, ensuring a clean and professional video.
- Edit Your Video: Once saved, you can edit your screen recording directly within the Photos app. This includes trimming unnecessary parts from the beginning or end, adjusting exposure, or adding filters. For more advanced editing, consider using iMovie or other video editing apps.
- Check Storage: Screen recordings, especially longer ones, can take up significant storage space. Periodically review and delete old recordings you no longer need.
