How to screen record on iPad Pro?

Published in iPad Screen Recording 3 mins read

Screen recording on an iPad Pro is a straightforward process that allows you to capture anything displayed on your screen, including app demonstrations, gameplay, or video calls, often with accompanying audio.

Enabling Screen Recording in Control Center

Before you can start recording, you need to ensure the Screen Recording feature is added to your iPad Pro's Control Center. This makes it easily accessible whenever you need it.

  1. Open Settings: The first thing you're going to do is open your Settings app. You'll find its icon on your Home Screen.
  2. Navigate to Control Center: Once in Settings, you're going to scroll down on the left side to find Control Center. Tap on it.
  3. Customize Controls: In the Control Center settings, locate the "More Controls" section.
  4. Add Screen Recording: Scroll through the list and find Screen Recording. Tap the green plus (+) icon next to it to add it to your "Included Controls."

Once added, the Screen Recording icon will be readily available in your Control Center.

Initiating a Screen Recording

With Screen Recording enabled in your Control Center, you're ready to capture your screen activity.

  1. Access Control Center:
    • On an iPad Pro without a Home button, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen (where the battery icon is).
    • If your iPad Pro has a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
  2. Start Recording: Tap the Screen Recording button. It looks like a solid white circle within a thinner white circle.
    • A three-second countdown will begin, giving you time to navigate to the app or content you wish to record.
    • The recording will automatically begin after the countdown.
  3. Record with Microphone Audio (Optional):
    • Before starting the recording, if you want to record audio from your iPad's microphone (e.g., your voice narrating the screen activity), press and hold the Screen Recording button in Control Center.
    • A pop-up menu will appear. Tap the Microphone Audio icon to turn it on (it will turn red).
    • Then, tap "Start Recording."

Stopping Your Screen Recording

When you're finished capturing your screen activity, stopping the recording is just as simple:

  1. Tap the Status Bar: Look for the red status bar at the top of your screen. Tap on it.
  2. Confirm Stop: A prompt will appear asking if you want to "Stop Screen Recording." Tap Stop.
    • Alternatively, you can open Control Center again and tap the red flashing Screen Recording button.
  3. Access Your Recording: Once stopped, a notification will appear saying "Screen Recording video saved to Photos." Your recorded video will automatically be saved in the Photos app, typically in the "Recents" album or a dedicated "Screen Recordings" album.

Tips for Better Screen Recordings

  • Check Storage: Ensure you have enough available storage space on your iPad Pro before starting a lengthy recording.
  • Notifications: Consider turning on Do Not Disturb mode during recording to prevent intrusive notifications from appearing in your video.
  • Privacy: Be mindful of sensitive information that might appear on your screen, such as passwords, personal messages, or financial details, and avoid recording them if sharing the video.

Following these steps will allow you to efficiently record your iPad Pro screen for various purposes, from creating tutorials to capturing memorable moments.
