How to Unshare Photos on iPhone

Published in iPhone Photo Sharing 2 mins read

Unsharing photos on your iPhone, particularly from a Shared Album you own, is a straightforward process managed within the Photos app. If you are the owner of a Shared Album and wish to remove a subscriber from accessing the shared content, you can follow these steps directly on your device.

Steps to Unshare Photos from a Shared Album

To stop sharing your photos with a specific person in a Shared Album you created, you need to manage the subscriber list for that album. Here's how:

  1. Open the Photos app: Locate and tap the Photos app icon on your iPhone's Home Screen.
  2. Navigate to Albums: Tap on the Albums tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Access Shared Albums: Scroll down and find the Shared Albums section. Tap on it to see all your shared albums.
  4. Select the Album: Tap on the specific shared album from which you want to remove a subscriber.
  5. View Subscribers: Tap the People option. This will show you the owner of the shared album (which should be you in this case) and a list of all the subscribers it's shared with.
  6. Select the Subscriber: In the list of subscribers, tap the name of the subscriber you want to stop sharing with.
  7. Stop Sharing: On the next screen displaying the subscriber's details within the album context, select the option to stop sharing with that subscriber. This action removes them from the shared album, and they will no longer be able to view the photos or videos within it.

This method allows you, as the album owner, to control access to your shared photo collections.

Note: These steps specifically apply to removing individuals from Shared Albums you own. Other methods of sharing photos (like sending them via messages, email, or other apps) are typically point-in-time transfers and don't create an ongoing sharing relationship that can be "unshared" in the same way.
