What is Muhammad's vision?

Published in Islamic Theology 1 min read

Muhammad's vision, around 610 CE, was a transformative experience in a cave where he reportedly heard the voice of a majestic being, identified as the angel Gabriel, declaring, "You are the Messenger of God." This marked the beginning of his prophethood and the subsequent revelations that form the basis of the Quran.

This initial vision was not simply a singular event, but the commencement of a series of religious revelations that continued throughout Muhammad's life. These revelations were meticulously collected and documented by Muhammad and his followers, eventually forming the complete text of the Quran, considered by Muslims to be the literal word of God (Allah).

Therefore, Muhammad's vision encompassed both the initial encounter with the angel Gabriel and the subsequent, continuous revelations he received, which shaped the core tenets of Islam and the Quran.
