What is Baby Koala Position?

Published in Koala Biology 1 min read

A baby koala (joey) typically sits straddling its mother's thigh or on her hip.

During breastfeeding, the joey maintains an upright position, ensuring its back and head are also upright for proper feeding. This straddling or hip-riding position allows the joey to cling securely to its mother while she moves around. The joey remains in this position as it grows, eventually transitioning to riding on its mother's back.
