How Do You Use Makeup Tape?

Published in Makeup Application 2 mins read

Makeup tape, also known as face lift tape or eyelid tape, is used to create a lifted or more defined appearance, particularly around the eyes. Here's how to use it:

  1. Preparation is Key: Ensure your skin is clean, dry, and free of any oils or makeup where you intend to apply the tape. This is crucial for the tape to adhere properly.

  2. Placement: Determine the area where you want to create a lifting effect. Common areas are the outer corners of the eyes to achieve a "fox eye" look or on the eyelids to create a more visible crease.

  3. Application:

    • Carefully peel the tape from its backing.
    • Position the tape where you want the lift to begin. Press it firmly onto the skin.
    • Gently pull the skin upwards and backwards to create the desired lift.
    • Adhere the remaining part of the tape to the skin, ensuring it's smooth and wrinkle-free.
  4. Concealment: If the tape is visible, you can conceal it with makeup, such as foundation or concealer, that matches your skin tone. Be careful not to disrupt the tape's placement.

  5. Blending Makeup: Apply your eyeshadow and other eye makeup as desired, blending carefully around the edges of the tape to create a seamless look. The goal is to make the tape undetectable.

  6. Removal: Gently peel the tape off your skin. To minimize discomfort or irritation, you can use a makeup remover or oil-based cleanser to loosen the adhesive.

Important Considerations:

  • Skin Sensitivity: If you have sensitive skin, test the tape on a small area first to check for any adverse reactions.
  • Tape Quality: Use high-quality, hypoallergenic tape designed for cosmetic use.
  • Avoid Overuse: Excessive or prolonged use may irritate the skin.
  • Hair Interference: Be mindful of your hairline and avoid attaching tape to your hair, as removal could be painful.
