How do I edit my Microsoft Form?

Published in Microsoft Forms 2 mins read

To edit a Microsoft Form you've created, follow these steps:

  1. Open Your Form: If it's not already open, navigate to Microsoft Forms (forms.microsoft.com) and sign in with your Microsoft account (the same account you used to create the form). Find the form you want to edit and open it.

  2. Access Edit Mode: Once the form is open, you should automatically be in edit mode. If you're viewing the "Responses" tab, click on the "Questions" tab to switch back to the editing interface.

  3. Make Your Edits:

    • Add Questions: Click "+ Add new" to add a new question. Choose the type of question you want (e.g., Multiple Choice, Text, Rating, Date).
    • Edit Existing Questions: Click on the question you want to modify. You can change the question text, add or remove options, mark it as required, and adjust other settings depending on the question type.
    • Rearrange Questions: Click and drag the questions to change their order.
    • Delete Questions: Click on the question you want to remove, and then click the trash can icon.
    • Customize Appearance: Click the "Theme" button in the upper-right corner to change the form's colors, background image, and font.
  4. Preview Your Changes: Click the "Preview" button at the top of the screen to see how your form will look to respondents on both desktop and mobile devices.

  5. Share Your Form: Once you're happy with your edits, click the "Collect responses" button to get a link to share your form. The updates you made will automatically be reflected in the shared form.

Important Considerations:

  • Responses are Preserved: Editing a form after responses have been submitted will not delete or modify any existing response data. However, be mindful of how changes might impact data analysis if you significantly alter questions.
  • Real-Time Updates: Changes are saved automatically, so there's no need to manually save your work.
  • Developer Tab: The reference material includes instructions to show the "Developer" tab on the ribbon. This is for a different version or type of form (likely related to Word documents), and is not relevant to editing Microsoft Forms created through forms.microsoft.com. You do not need the developer tab to edit your Microsoft Form.
