Published in Military Acronyms 1 min read

The full form of USSF is United States Space Force.

The United States Space Force is the space service branch of the United States Armed Forces, one of the eight uniformed services. It is the military service branch that organizes, trains, and equips space forces in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force. The USSF is the newest branch of the U.S. military, having been established on December 20, 2019.

The primary responsibilities of the USSF include:

  • Developing military space professionals: Recruiting, training, and educating personnel specializing in space operations.
  • Securing U.S. access to space: Protecting vital satellite systems from attack and disruption.
  • Developing military space doctrine: Creating strategies and tactics for military operations in space.
  • Organizing space forces: Structuring units and organizations to effectively carry out space missions.

The USSF operates under the Department of the Air Force, similar to how the Marine Corps operates under the Department of the Navy. It is led by the Chief of Space Operations (CSO), who is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
