How Long is Basic Rescue Training?

Published in Military Training Duration 1 min read

Basic Rescue Training (BRT) is 4 weeks in duration. However, the total duration of pre-enlistment training can vary depending on an individual's Physical Employment Standards (PES) status and Pre-Enlistee Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) score.

For recruits who achieve a Pre-Enlistee IPPT score of 61 points or more and are classified under PES A or B1, Basic Rescue Training lasts for 4 weeks.

If a recruit is classified under PES A or B1 but scores less than 61 points in their Pre-Enlistee IPPT, they will undergo an additional 8-week Physical Training Phase (PTP) prior to commencing the 4-week Basic Rescue Training. This means their overall pre-enlistment training period will be longer before they begin the actual BRT.

The different scenarios for the training duration are summarized below:

Pre-Enlistee IPPT Score & PES Status Training Duration
PES A/B1 and 61 points or more in Pre-Enlistee IPPT 4 weeks (Basic Rescue Training)
PES A/B1 and less than 61 points in Pre-Enlistee IPPT 8 weeks of Physical Training Phase (PTP) followed by 4 weeks of Basic Rescue Training
