Do you see the baby when you miscarry?

Published in Miscarriage Details 1 min read

Whether or not you will see a recognizable baby during a miscarriage depends on the gestational age of the pregnancy. In early miscarriages, it's less likely you'll see something that looks like a baby.

During a miscarriage, especially in early pregnancy, you may see clots. According to available information, you might see:

  • Clots of blood.
  • A small sac filled with fluid.
  • The embryo, which is about the size of your little finger's fingernail, might be seen inside the sac, along with the placenta. Most women won't see anything recognizable at this stage.

The earlier the miscarriage occurs, the less developed the pregnancy is, and the less likely you are to see anything resembling a baby.
