Geraldine Largay was found by a forester in October 2015, more than two years after she went missing while hiking the Appalachian Trail.
The Discovery of Geraldine Largay
After Geraldine Largay went missing in July 2013 during her solo hike, extensive and prolonged efforts were undertaken to locate her. Teams comprising ground searchers and search dogs with their handlers tirelessly tried to find her for two years, but these initial searches were unsuccessful.
Her remains and belongings were ultimately discovered on October 16, 2015, by a forester. This individual was conducting a survey of land adjacent to the main trail, specifically property owned by the U.S. Navy. The discovery included:
- Her flattened tent.
- Strewn gear that was part of her equipment.
- Her remains.
The site of discovery was approximately three miles from where she had last been known to step off the Appalachian Trail.
