How do I change the opacity on Paint?

Published in MS Paint Transparency 2 mins read

Changing the opacity (transparency) in Microsoft Paint involves using the transparent selection feature. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Open your image: Launch Microsoft Paint on your PC. Click File then Open to select and add the image you want to work with.
  2. Select a portion of the image: Click the Select button located at the top of the menu bar. This will open a list of selection options.
  3. Enable Transparent Selection: Choose the Transparent selection option from the list. This setting makes the background of your selection transparent when you move or copy it.

Important Considerations:

  • Paint's Limitations: Standard Paint has limited opacity control compared to more advanced image editing software. The "Transparent selection" option simply makes the selected area transparent or opaque.
  • Working with Colors: In Paint, you can use the color picker tool to select a specific color in your image. This can be useful when combined with transparent selection for basic editing.

Example:

Imagine you have a logo you want to place on another image without a white box around it. By using the transparent selection feature, you can select the logo and any white background surrounding it will become transparent when you paste the logo onto the new image.
