Can you file gel toe nails?

Published in Nail Care 1 min read

It's generally not recommended to file gel toe nails if you want your manicure to last.

Filing gel nails, including on your toes, can compromise the integrity of the seal around the edges that makes the manicure durable. Here's why you should avoid filing:

  • Breaks the Seal: Gel manicures are designed with a seal that protects the polish and helps it adhere to the nail. Filing disrupts this seal.
  • Increases Wear and Tear: Once the seal is broken, the gel polish becomes more susceptible to chipping, peeling, and other damage.
  • Compromises Longevity: Filing can significantly shorten the lifespan of your gel manicure.

If you absolutely must adjust the length or shape of your gel toe nails, proceed with extreme caution.
