How to connect Joy-Con to Switch?

Published in Nintendo Switch 2 mins read

Connecting your Joy-Con controllers to your Nintendo Switch is simple! You can connect them wirelessly or by attaching them directly to the console. Here's how:

Wireless Pairing:

  1. Navigate to the HOME Menu: On your Nintendo Switch, go to the main screen.
  2. Access Controllers: Select "Controllers" from the HOME Menu.
  3. Change Grip and Order: Choose "Change Grip and Order." This will bring up a screen showing controller icons.
  4. Sync the Joy-Con: On the Joy-Con you want to pair, locate the small, round SYNC button (it's located between the SL and SR buttons on the side that slides into the Switch console). Press and hold this button down for at least one second.
  5. Watch for the LED: The player LED(s) on the Joy-Con will begin flashing. Once the Joy-Con is paired, the LED corresponding to the controller number will remain lit solid.

Directly Attaching:

  • Simply slide the Joy-Con down the rails on the sides of the Nintendo Switch console until they click into place. They will automatically connect.

Troubleshooting:

  • Joy-Con Not Pairing? Ensure your Switch is not in Airplane Mode, which disables wireless communication. Also, make sure the Joy-Cons have sufficient battery charge.
  • Interference: Sometimes, wireless interference can prevent pairing. Try moving closer to the console or removing any potential sources of interference (e.g., other wireless devices).
  • Resync: If a Joy-Con is not working properly, try resyncing it by holding the SYNC button again.

Once connected, you can use your Joy-Cons to navigate menus, play games, and more!
