What is Tooth Cream?

Published in Oral Care 1 min read

Tooth cream is a general term used to describe a topical cream that is applied to teeth for various purposes, including:

  • Remineralization: Tooth creams like MI Paste® contain calcium and phosphate which help strengthen teeth and prevent cavities by remineralizing tooth enamel.
  • Pain relief: Certain tooth creams like Orajel™ are formulated to soothe toothaches and provide temporary relief from gum pain. They typically contain medicated ingredients like benzocaine.
  • Whitening: Some tooth creams contain whitening agents like hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to help brighten teeth and remove surface stains.
  • Protection: Tooth creams can also protect teeth from erosion caused by acidic foods and drinks. They often contain casein/calcium phosphate which help strengthen enamel and resist acid attack.

While "tooth cream" is a less common term than "toothpaste," it accurately describes the creamy texture and topical application of these products.
